Cora plunges on, determined to learn the truth.
Anne Da Vigo is an award-winning former police and court reporter who writes thrillers inspired by real events. The background of Night Flight is particularly vivid for her because the horrendous airplane crash that inspired the book occurred in her home town of Denver, Colorado. In researching Night Flight, she visited sites still remaining that are connected to the accused and convicted murderer, John Gilbert Graham.
She lives in Northern California, where she writes weekly with Monday Night Writers, a group she co-founded in 1994.
If your book club adopts Night Flight for a meeting, contact Anne. She’d love to meet with your group and talk about her creative journey in writing the thriller.

Review from the BookLife Prize
Da Vigo blends themes of independence, growth, and escape with true crime in an engrossing 1950s noir setting, during a time women struggled with marked inequality. Seventeen-year-old Hannah’s challenges—and Jack’s desires and choices—mirror social issues of a grander scale, and, as the narrative twists darker and draws Hannah into Jack’s destructive world, readers sense that independence and progress may mean casting off the illusion of protection.
Prose: De Vigo writes straightforwardly, with easy-to-read dialogue and simple yet fitting prose for the novel’s setting.
Originality: The true crime genre is awash with entries, but Da Vigo’s choice to probe the ’50s Italian underground of Colorado is a distinctive premise. The novel is constructed from a real mass murder, bringing to light a horrific, rarely-discussed event.
Character/Execution: The character development throughout this novel is intriguing. Hannah grows from an insecure young woman who seeks acceptance from those she does not respect—and at times betrays those she does—to gain a sense of self and confront her family, in spite of what it may cost her. Jack’s downward spiral expertly reveals his character and motivations—and how he came to make the choices he does.
“Night Flight is the haunting story of a teenage girl finding her way in a cold world. Hannah Brightman battles not only high school problems and family drama in the Denver of the 1950s, but also a surprising evil that threatens everything she tenuously holds dear. This enthralling novel questions the very definition of family. Da Vigo writes with deep insight into human nature, creating an unforgettable story about attraction and desire—and the sinister ripple effects it has on everyone it touches.”–Claire Booth, award-winning author of the Hank Worth Mystery Series
